DIY: Homemade Lava Lamp

School is out for the summer and I am definitely trying to find different things for my kids to do so they won’t bother me be bored the entire time. So I’ve come across a cool experiment to make a homemade lava lamp that the kids could do that doesn’t take too much time to create, but will keep them occupied for a while.

What you will need:

Water bottle

Vegetable oil

Water

Food Coloring

Alka Seltzer

How to make the lava lamp:

Fill the bottle a little over 1/2 way with vegetable oil.

Fill the rest of the bottle with water, but not all the way to the top. Allow the oil and water to separate.

Put about 4 to 5 drops of any food coloring that the kids would like in the bottle.

Break one Alka Seltzer tablet into pieces and drop one piece into the bottle.

Watch the fun as the bubbles of food coloring go up and down!

After the bubbles have subsided, put the next piece in.

We also put glitter in the bottles for a little more effect, but that is optional.
